Questions Questions Questions

One of the great perks of traveling when you are under the age of, oh let's say 21, is that you don't have to make the travel arrangements. How do people go on vacation!?!

Let's just start with the basics:
1. You decide that you want to go to Venice, Italy.
     - Great! Amazing!
2. How are you going to get there?
     - Flying, duh!
3. Find a great travel site to look up flights.
     - Kayak. Done.
4. Enter in search and...
     - Holy shit!
Here's where they really start rolling in...
4a. Depart from LAX or SFO?
4b. Fly into Venice?
4c. Fly into any European city?
4d. Can I get from that city to Venice?
4e. How do I figure all of this out???

And that is just the flight!

So I scrap that for the time being and take a look at hotels. Again, Kayak has been a life saver but have you ever heard of too much of a good thing. Thousands of listings for hotels and as I've recently discovered 5 sections of the city. Here we go again with the questions...

1. If you are a mid to late 20-something traveling with her 70+ year old grandmother in what section of the city should we stay?
2. Some of the hotels look a little old, is that just Venetian charm?
3. Is apartment renting a better option and if so, where do you find those?

My head was spinning after an hour and a half on Kayak so I gave up to write this blog post.

If you've been to Venice please help! If you've ever been to Venice and you are a mid to late 20-something, I would love to hear from you even more. If you are a mid to late 20-something that has travelled with their 70+ year old grandmother, we are soul mates and we need to be best friends and also email for the next four weeks constantly. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Free???

What would you do if someone asked you to go to Venice, Italy with them? Most people would say, “Yes!” then, follow with a frown and a slightly lower pitched, “How much?”

“How much?” is usually the reality check moment. All of a sudden you see dollar signs flashing before your eyes or your bank balance showing up in red. How much does it even cost to go to Europe these days? Isn’t their economy failing?

Now imagine if all of that didn’t have to go through your head. What if the answer to that question was,

“Free”.

Yesterday, my grandmother offered me a trip to Venice, Italy. Let me clarify, a free trip to Venice, Italy. Although, I’ve been to many countries around the world, I’ve never really considered going to Venice. So what does anyone in the 21st century do?

I Googled it. V-E-N-I-C-E, I-T-A-L-Y.

And, in true Google fashion, I received about 38,300,000 results in 0.35 seconds. After reading the first page of wiki this and that about Venice, I wanted something more. I wanted something written from the point of view of someone my age (hovering around mid to late 20’s). So I Googled, “Venice, Italy Blog”. Still, nothing really caught my eye. In the age of rapid, ADD speed, technology, I figured, what the hell, might as well write my own blog.

This is the journey from zero to Italy…
